US billionaire Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway investment empire has unveiled the purchase of a stake in Taiwan’s TSMC, the world’s largest chipmaker. As a result, TSMC shares firmed nearly eight percent during Tuesday’s trading.

A significant investment by Warren Buffett

Warren Buffett, through Berkshire Hathaway, bought more than four billion dollars worth of shares in Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). This is a rather significant investment by this American billionaire in technology. Buffett is known more for his investments in companies like Coca-Cola, American Express and the like, and rarely invests in technology.

Warren Buffett’s value is increasing

Berkshire Hathaway owned more than 60 million shares of TSMC at the end of September, according to a report that every listed company must file with the US regulator. Moreover, their value increased by almost eight percent to 480 Taiwan dollars (about 15.40 US dollars) after the information was made public.

Berkshire Hathaway has also invested in building materials manufacturer Louisiana-Pacific Corp and investment firm Jefferies Financial Group.
