U.S. Stocks Close Mixed as Investors Await Big Tech Earnings

Wall Street ended the session without a clear direction. While the Dow Jones and S&P 500 posted modest gains, the tech-heavy Nasdaq declined. Investors are now awaiting earnings reports from Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, and Apple, as well as the Federal Reserve’s upcoming decision.

Technology Stocks Remain Under Pressure

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 0.51% to 52,210.08 points, while the broader S&P 500 added 0.02% to 7,413.18 points. The Nasdaq, however, fell by 0.18% to 24,932.08 points.

Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, and Apple are scheduled to release their quarterly results this week. Investors will focus primarily on further spending on artificial intelligence and its impact on profitability. Concerns intensified after Tesla and Alphabet reported high costs linked to AI development.

Dollar Edges Higher Ahead of Fed Meeting

The U.S. dollar recovered slightly after an initial decline. Markets expect the Federal Reserve to keep its benchmark interest rate unchanged within the 3.50% to 3.75% range. Analysts estimate the probability of a quarter-point rate increase at roughly one in three.

Shortly before 10:00 p.m. CEST, the U.S. Dollar Index was up 0.04% at 101.51 points. The euro remained unchanged against the dollar at $1.1370, while the dollar slipped by 0.05% against the yen to 163.75 JPY.
