Hackers linked to Iran have threatened to publish more emails stolen from people close to US President Donald Trump. The same group of hackers, who go by the pseudonym Robert, sent a batch of stolen emails to the media before the 2024 presidential election in the United States. Reuters reported on this today.
Cyber attack
In online communications with Reuters on Sunday and Monday, the hackers claimed to have emails totaling about 100 gigabytes from the accounts of White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, Trump’s lawyer Lindsey Halligan, Trump’s adviser Roger Stone, and porn actress and now Trump’s opponent Stormy Daniels. The group mentioned the possibility of selling the material but did not provide further details about its intentions or comment on the content of the emails.
US Attorney General Pam Bondi described the breach to Reuters as a “reckless cyberattack.”
The Robert group made itself known in the final months of last year’s presidential campaign, claiming to have hacked into the email accounts of several Trump allies, including Wiles. The hackers then sent the emails to journalists.
Communications between members
Reuters has previously verified the authenticity of some of these materials, including an email that appeared to document a financial agreement between Trump and lawyers representing former presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., now Trump’s health secretary. Other materials included communications from members of Trump’s election team about Republican candidates for administration positions and discussions about a settlement with Stormy Daniels.
Although the leaked documents caused a stir last year, they did not significantly alter the course of the presidential race, which Trump won, Reuters noted.
