Japanese technology conglomerate SoftBank sold its entire stake in US chipmaker Nvidia for $5.83 billion (approximately CZK 122.5 billion). The company announced this today in a report on its half-year financial results.
Stocks
Nvidia is the global leader in the market for artificial intelligence (AI) chips and is benefiting significantly from the rapid growth in interest in this technology. In October this year, thanks to strong growth in its share price, Nvidia became the first company in the world to exceed a market value of five trillion dollars.
SoftBank said the sale of its stake in Nvidia took place in October. The company sold all 32.1 million Nvidia shares it owned directly or through subsidiaries.
Net profit
SoftBank also announced today that in the first half of the fiscal year, which ended on September 30, it nearly tripled its net profit to a record 2.92 trillion yen (nearly CZK 400 billion). Revenues from investments in the American company OpenAI, which developed the popular ChatGPT chat system, contributed to the profit growth, according to the Kyodo news agency.
SoftBank is involved in investments in the technology industry. For example, it controls a majority stake in the British chip company Arm and owns shares in a number of other technology companies, such as the Chinese online retailer Alibaba.
